Today was the first day of fall. Coincidentally, the heat wave we’ve also been experiencing was ended last night, by some heavy thunderstorms. We ended up with temperature drops, from the ’90s, down 20 degrees or so, to around 70.
I got up in my chair today. It is something that I have been able to do for a while now. And I got to wheel outside and enjoy the cool fall weather. So cool, that I had to have them, throw a light blanket over me.
I looked out at the yard. I watched the dogs play. And I thought about how much my life has changed in the past year.
There’s my car. It needs to be driven more, more than the occasional run to the mailboxes. It looks good though. How I miss driving it, and listening to the radio blast some familiar tune.
A cool breeze on my face. Off in the distance, my daughter rides her bike down a dusty, rocky road. A hawk soars on the wind currents, above my head.
My pain is about at a level of five out of ten. And that is with a Litacain patch on. I’ve had pain, coming from my tailbone for a few months now. They haven’t been able to figure out why, or how to make it stop. Just one more pain, to add to my list.
I’ll let nothing, spoil this moment though. It’s been some time since I made it outside. It’s been too hot. I’m soaking up this moment, even if is overcast.
I smell something dead. Maybe that explains the hawk.
Fall is my favorite time of year. With the cool nights, and the relatively warm days. Easy to sleep at night. Easy to get things done during the day. Not too hot, not too cold. No, I’m not talking about some childhood nursery rhyme. You know the one.
